KARACHI The Sindh government has not yet signed the summary which extends the special policing powers granted to rangers.
Under the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997, Sindh government allows Pakistan Rangers to arrest suspects and carry out raids. These are special powers granted to the Pakistan Rangers by the Sindh government.
According to officials, a summary to this effect granting extension
of powers to rangers has been moved to the Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah by the Home Department Sindh, it remai
ns pending to date.
On January 19, the CM signed a summary granting a 90-day extension
of powers to the Pakistan Rangers.in
Karachi.
However on Janu
ary the powers extended to the paramilitary force expired a
nd the extension delayed to January 18.
The provincial government, in 2016, tried to restrict the Rangers’ powers in
Karachi but the move was overruled by the centre.
