The United States has denied reports that travel restrictions are being placed on P
akistani diplomats in Washington.
The statement came a day after it was emerged that the Trump administration had decided to impose new restrictions on P
akistani diplomats in the US following P
akistan’s protest against the killing of a motorcyclist after being hit by a US Embassy vehicle in Islamabad last week.
Contrary to reports that the US might impose travel restrictions on P
akistani diplomats from May 1, the Voice of America Wednesday stated the US State Department confirmed via an em
ail that no travel restrictions were being placed P
akistani diplomats in the United States.
The Indian media reported that Don
ald Trump-administration had taken the decision after P
akistan lodged a strong protest with US over killing of a P
akistani student by US military attaché.
P
akistan’s Embassy in Washington told VOA on Tuesday that it had received no information about such restrictions.
Bilateral relations between the two countries have been at the lowest since President Don
ald Trump’s tweet in January, which alleged that the P
akistani government had ‘deceived’ the US.
The tweet was followed by suspension of aid to P
akistan, which was given for the country’s role in the war on terror.
P
akistani officials strongly refuted Trump’s claims and said the country had done its utmost to ensure elimination of terror groups on its soil.
